We are pleased to present the following exciting opportunity for HDR/ECA attendees (both virtual and in-person) of the AIP Summer Meeting.

Pitchmasters: a customised improve-by-doing workshop on pitching that provides a supportive and positive learning experience, where participants are empowered to develop their skills in pitching, public speaking, and providing a compelling answer to the question ‘What do you do?’
What to expect?
Just like “Art of Persuasion” only better!
This highly tailored workshop will focus on the practice of pitching complex ideas to enhance the art of research communication. In the real world, these days, the question: “What’s your pitch?” is another way of being asked, “Who are you?” and “what do you do?”. Let’s get you ready for that. Welcome to Pitchmasters, your dojo on the art and science of pitching. Through a practice-based workshop by an experienced facilitator and encouragement from an evaluative and supportive environment, Pitchmasters is your antidote to the pain of pitching.
To see how it all works, join the Pitchmasters sessions at the 2021 Australian Institute of Physics Summer Meeting on 6 – 9 December 2021.
This session is sponsored by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science and brought to you by QUT Entrepreneurship.

Pitchmasters Program Details:
What: A Pitching Workshop to cultivate academic presentations, and research communication skills. The session will focus on entrepreneurship and will provide advice on how to craft a successful pitch, potentially including discussions of some case studies/examples. We will focus on developing elevator-style pitches in preparation for a pitch competition. You will be supported to improve through practice, designing the story and delivery of the content.
Where: The Foundry, B Block, Level 2, QUT Gardens Points Campus and online
When: Monday 6 December 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM (workshop) and Wednesday 8 December 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (competition).
Who can attend: PhD students, and early career researchers. Anyone who needs to improve their research communication skills and build their public speaking skills to communicate complex ideas.
Why attend: Successful academics have a compelling answer to the question ‘What do you do?’. If you can’t pitch the value proposition of your research with clarity and credibility it’s game over.
