Most beaches, walks, and lookouts are free, and many cafés and pubs offer student-friendly options.

Here are some top things to see and do during your stay:

Outdoor Activities

• Bike, scooter or walk along the Blue Mile Pathway, hire a bike or use a shared scooter to explore Wollongong’s foreshore and lighthouse precinct.
• Visit Flagstaff Hill Lighthouse which has panoramic ocean views and picnic spots.
• Swim at rock pools, the Continental Ocean Pool near North Beach is free, scenic, and great for a morning dip.
• December is summer in Wollongong, the perfect time to hit the beach. Central Wollongong has several beaches to offer such as North Wollongong Beach, City Beach, and Cove Beach.
• Explore Puckeys Estate Reserve.

Bicycle Hire

The Wollongong (Illawarra) coastal cycleway, a scenic shared path that runs along the coastline from Port Kembla in the south all the way through Wollongong, North Wollongong, Fairy Meadow, Towradgi, Bulli, and up to Thirroul in the north. Bicycle hire is available at:

Car accessible Activities

Access to a car opens up many different activities such as:

• Walking trails on the escarpment
• Day trips to nearby towns such as Kiama and Berry, or to breathtaking natural areas such as Royal National Park or Jervis Bay.
• Sea Cliff Bridge (also accessible by train – Coalcliff Station).
• HARS Aviation Museum – please check the availability of tours before you go
• Illawarra Fly Tree Top Adventures
• Nan Tien Temple
